Quick Tip For Dry Lips

Do you feel like your lips are always dry? Personally I didn’t always deal with that but let’s be honest, my matte lipstick obsession is catching up with me.  Between the matte lipstick trend and fall and winter coming, I think a lot of us are going to be dealing with lips that are always dry (Because you know I’m not going to pass up wearing dark matte lips in the fall, errm hello have you met me?) so what better time to talk about how I deal with them?

For some people who have a serious, cracking, bleeding sorta dry lip problem, this may not completely solve it (still might help though). But for the average person who’s lips are always dry due to circumstance then I think I have a super easy, super quick couple of tips to help keep it at bay.

  1. Drink Enough Water  This isn’t exactly part of the tip and I’ve said this before but it’s worth reiterating because if you’re dehydrated your lips are going to be dehydrated too.  Ever wake up hung over with prune lips? Dehydration is a biiiiiish.  Don’t let it give you a bad lipstick day.
  2. Apply Lip Balm Before A Hot Shower – Before you get in the shower apply a generous amount of a thick, hydrating lip balm.  When I say a generous amount I mean it.  I’m talking “I just ate fried chicken without a napkin and I’m not sorry” lips.  They should be coated, shining and borderline ridiculous before you step foot into the shower.  And when I say a thick balm, I mean a good, thick balm.  Not chapstick, not EOS. ( can we just admit that EOS sucks? It’s cute but c’mon its a ball of wax)  Something like Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour creamBite Beauty Agave Lip Mask, or C.O. Bigelow My Favorite Night Balm is ideal.
  3. Gently Exfoliate With A Wash Cloth – After you have have spent your entire shower with your lips greased for the gawwwwds take a clean, wet, washcloth and gently buff over the lips in circular motions.  The thick balm in the hot shower will have softened everything up and moisturized your lips extra well because of the heat and steam from the shower.  The gentle buffing with the cloth will remove any really flakey bits, but doing it gently is important because you don’t want to irritate them and perpetuate the dry lip cycle.
  4. Repeat Regularly – I do this pretty much every time I shower.  If you are prone to scrubbing too hard or you have super duper sensitive skin then maybe do it only a few times a week.  But if you do it on the regular your lips will be smooth and dry and lipstick ready most of the time without issue.

So give this routine a try if you feel like your lips are always dry, and let me know if you have any dry lip tips that you swear by too!
